NSW: Some 500 people evacuated from Waterfall, school ablaze
SYDNEY, Dec 26 AAP - The NSW Rural Fire Service said some 500 people were being evacuated
this morning from bushfires in Waterfall, south of Sydney.
The service's spokesman John Wade said only part of the suburb was affected by the
bushfires and people in threatened areas were being told to leave.
He said Waterfall Public School had caught fire and was well alight at 2am (AEST).
Mr Wade said while there was damage to property, no injuries had been reported.
The news came as hundreds of extra firefighters were brought in and thousands of emergency
service workers on stand-by to bolster the fight against bushfires raging across NSW.
