SYDNEY, Dec 30 AAP - The national road toll for the holiday period has risen to 48
with the death of a 21-year-old man in Western Australia.

He was killed when his car collided head-on with a truck near Lancelin, about 120km

The truck driver was trapped in the crash and had to be cut out.

He was flown by helicopter to hospital but his condition is not known.

The man's death brings Western Australia's road toll for the holiday period to four.

Three people also died on New South Wales roads today, bringing the number of deaths

A police spokesman said they both died after losing control on bends.
