VIC: Thousands gather for dawn service in Melbourne

MELBOURNE, April 25 AAP - Unfavourable weather forecasts have failed to stop thousands
of people from gathering at Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance for the Anzac Day dawn service.

The service, beginingg at 5.45am (AEST), marks the 94th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings.

People of all ages have quietly gathered in the darkness at the base of the shrine.

There are young families, groups of teenagers amd diggers proudly wearing their medals
waiting for the service to begin.

More than 35,000 people are expected to attend the service.
