FED: Very fast train from Melbourne to Sydney a possibility

A very fast train linking Melbourne .. Canberra and Sydney is at the top of a federal
government wish list for road and rail projects.

The 59 billion dollar project tops a list of 94 projects selected by the government's
Infrastructure Australia .. which was charged with sifting through one thousand submissions.

Transport Minister ANTHONY ALBANESE hasn't committed to any projects .. but says the
list will allow further prioritisation.

The government's infrastructure czar Sir ROD EDDINGTON says the global financial crisis
will affect short-term plans.

But he says it won't hurt the long-term ambitions of Prime Minister KEVIN RUDD.
