Unions say the defeat of Labor's emissions trading scheme is a disaster for future green jobs.

ACTU president SHARAN BURROW'S urged the government to waste no time calling an early
election .. if talks over summer break down.

She says up to one million new green energy jobs are at risk.

The Senate today rejected the ETS bill for the second time .. giving the government
a double dissolution early election trigger.
